About Tokyo Tech Portal

Tokyo Tech Portal has been introduced for aiming an integrated and easy-to-use gateway to information and communication systems developed/offered by various groups/organizations in Tokyo Institute of Technology. A new IC card system--- Tokyo Tech IC card ---has been also introduced, which provides all Tokyo Tech people with a key to enter this Tokyo Tech Portal.

1. Tokyo Tech IC Card

Tokyo Tech IC card is a general term referring to student cards, staff cards (1,2), and access cards. Tokyo Tech IC card has an IC chip and a matrixcode, which have the following features.

IC chip:

IC chip is a small computer that has several processors and internal memory. Each IC chip memorizes (i) basic info. (name, etc) of the card holder, (ii) a public-key based proof of the card holder's id., and (iii) a 6 digit pin code for protecting the above info. This IC chip is used as an authentication key to Tokyo Tech Portal, a key to information systems (e.g., library system, etc), and an electric key of some of the buildings/rooms.
When used as an authentication key (for PKI authentication), an IC chip computes, by using its processor and the above info., an encrypted proof of the card holder's id., which is transferred to your computer and then sent to the central id. server for authentication.

Matrixcode:

A matrixcode is a 7x10 matrix of alphabet, which is unique to each Tokyo Tech IC card. A matrixcode is used for matrixcode authentication.

2. Tokyo Tech Portal, Login Methods

When accessing to /portal-e.pl, the front page of Tokyo Tech Portal appears. From this page, there are the following two ways of log on to Tokyo Tech Portal.

Matrixcode authentication:

An authentication method by using your matrixcode. See Guide for Matrixcode Authetication

PKI authentication:

An authentication method by using your IC card and an IC card reader. See PKI Authetication and IC Card Reader(in Japanese).

3. Tokyo Tech Portal, Current Service

At the top page of Tokyo Tech Portal (the page that appears after your login process), a current list of available services is shown. Currently, the following services are available.

• Change Password: Please change your initial password(see Password Change).
• Name Registration: Please register your name spelling (see Name Register).
• Webmail: Webmail for Tokyo Tech Mail System. (see Guide for Tokyo Tech Mail System).
• SSL-VPN: Access to Tokyo Tech Library.
